The Teal Pumpkin Project is designed to promote safety, inclusion and respect of individuals managing food allergies – and to keep Halloween a fun, positive experience for all. Halloween can be a tricky time – quite literally – for families managing food allergies because many traditional Halloween treats aren’t safe for children with life-threatening food allergies.

This campaign encourages people to raise awareness of food allergies by providing non-food treats for trick-or-treaters and painting a pumpkin teal – the color of food allergy awareness – to place in front of their house along with a free printable sign from FARE to indicate they have non-food treats available. Plus they have a really simple teal pumpkin decorating kit that includes a cute little foam pumpkin face and stickers that say “This house is allergy safe” just grab a cheap foam pumpkin, paint it teal, add the stickers, and your teal pumpkin is ready for Halloween! They have TONS of non-food items that are perfect for the Teal Pumpkin Project they are allergy-safe and kids will love them! I found bubbles, glow-in-the-dark bouncy balls, glow stick bracelets, stickers, and tons of other toys that I think trick or treaters will love. This year I teamed up with Oriental Trading Company to get ready for Halloween. It seems like such a shame for kids with food allergies to have to miss out on part of the Halloween fun, so I think the Teal Pumpkin Project is a great idea! Everyone gets to trick or treat AND keep their treats at the end of the night!

We put a teal pumpkin on our front porch to indicate that we have candy AND non-food treats for trick-or-treaters. Halloween is one of my favorite holidays I love dressing up and trick or treating, and eating tons of candy! This year we’re participating in the Teal Pumpkin Project again to help make Halloween fun and safe for all kids, even those with food allergies.
